On March 25, 2025, Governor Laura Kelly signed HB 2359 into law. This bill enacts the Uniform Adult Guardianship and Protective Proceedings Jurisdiction Act (UAGPPJA) and the Kansas Uniform Guardianship, Conservatorship, and Other Protective Arrangements Act (KUGCOPAA). This bill goes into effect on January 1, 2026.
Members of the Young Lawyers section are encouraged to apply for section leadership positions. Applications will be accepted through Friday, May 16, 2025, and will be reviewed by the nominating committee for 1-year terms beginning July 1, 2025, and ending on June 30, 2026.
Kansas Bar Association Affirms ABA Rule of Law Statement
Annually, the Kansas Bar Foundation (KBF) Board of Trustees reviews recommendations from its Interest on Lawyer Trust Accounts (IOLTA)/Community Reinvestment Homeowners Assistance (CRHA) Committee to award grants to qualifying organizations. This year, the KBF approved funding for eight organizations that provide essential civil legal and educational services to Kansans.
Longtime Construction Law section president Jeff Leonard is stepping down. KBA President Mark A. Dupree, Sr. appointed Heather Shore to serve in the role.
