The Kansas Bar Association (KBA) has been made aware of fraudulent phishing attempts targeting our membership and the legal community. Scammers are impersonating KBA officers and staff members in deceptive emails designed to steal personal information, financial data, or gain unauthorized access to professional accounts.

The Supreme Court Nominating Commission interviewed fifteen candidates on June 9 and 10 to fill the open position on the Kansas Supreme Court created by the resignation of Justice Evelyn Wilson. The Commission recommended three candidates to Gov. Laura Kelly. The governor has 60 days to appoint one of the three.

Kansas Legal Services is looking for volunteers to assist with the KLS Elder Law Hotline. Contact Joy Springfield for information or to sign up.

Update (July 10, 2025):  The deadline to submit application materials, which was previously June 24, 2025, has been extended to July 18, 2025.  
Applicants may obtain forms and information needed to apply by emailing judicialapplications@ks.gov.

The purpose of the commission is to nominate persons for appointment as justices of the Kansas Supreme Court.

The Kansas Bar Association will celebrate the first anniversary of Kansas Free Legal Answers (https://kansas.freelegalanswers.org) on Law Day, May 1, 2025. This virtual legal advice clinic, hosted by the American Bar Association and funded by the Kansas Bar Foundation, allows income-eligible Kansans to submit legal questions for volunteer attorneys to answer. Kansas is among 42 states participating in this national program
