Kansas Bar Association YLS Mock Trial Competition Presented by Shook, Hardy & Bacon LLP

(April 13, 2007) Topeka, KS—The Kansas Bar Association YLS Mock Trial Competition Presented by Shook, Hardy & Bacon LLP culminated on March 31, 2007 at the State Tournament in Wichita, Kansas. The top three teams from each of the Regional Tournaments held in Kansas City and Wichita competed. Shawnee Mission East High School placed third, Sunrise Christian Academy placed second, and the Wichita Independent High School was named the Kansas State Champion. Thanks to sponsorship from the law firm of Shook, Hardy & Bacon LLP, the Wichita Independent High School will receive funds to compete at the National High School Mock Trial Competition in Dallas May 10 – 12. Bonner Springs High School won the “Good Sport” Award. Craig Harms from Sunrise Christian Academy received the award for the Best Opening Statement or Closing Argument. Danielle Onions received the award for Best Direct or Cross Examination, and Taylor Barton received the Best Witness award. Both students are from Shawnee Mission Northwest High School. Wichita Collegiate High School, who fielded a team for the first time this year, also competed.
