Governor Sebelius Joins Kansas Bar in Observing Separate
Branches, Balanced Powers
(April 26, 2006) Topeka, KSRichard F. Hayse, President of the Kansas Bar Association (KBA), announced today a week-long observance of Separate Branches, Balanced Powers in recognition of Law Day 2006. In cooperation with this endeavor, Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius has proclaimed May 1-6, 2006, as Separate Branches, Balanced Powers Week.
“This year Law Day focuses on two of the most important principles in our Constitution: Separation of powers, and checks and balances,” said Hayse. “These principles are at the heart of the success of our American system of government.”
The proclamation states that Law Day is a celebration of our nation’s greatest heritage of liberty, justices, and equality under the law and that our system of separation of powers and checks and balances stands as a model for other nations of the world.
Gov. Sebelius urges all citizens to join in this observance and use this occasion to preserve and strengthen the rule of law.
Law Day is a national event, held on or around May 1 every year, designed to remind Americans of our heritage of liberty under law and alert them to the role that they play as citizens in protecting and preserving our freedoms.
