Starkey Elected President of the Kansas Bar Foundation
(Aug. 2, 2005) Topeka, KSH. David Starkey, Colby, has been elected to serve as president of the Kansas Bar Foundation (KBF) for a one-year term until June 2006. He succeeds Gloria Farha Flentje, Wichita, who recently completed a term as president of the Foundation.
“For nearly fifty years, the Kansas Bar Foundation has provided assistance to charitable and educational programs which benefit the citizens of Kansas,” said Starkey. “Since 2000, the Foundation has awarded almost $950,000 in grants to provide legal services to those who cannot afford them and educational programs in our schools for our children.”
“I am proud and honored to serve the Kansas Bar Foundation and the benevolent tradition of Kansas lawyers.”
A member of the KBF Board of Trustees since 1999, Starkey is a partner in the law firm of Starkey & Gatz and practices in the areas of litigation, probate, commercial transactions, business organizations, real estate, and estate planning.
Starkey graduated with honors from Kansas State University, receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1969 and his law degree in 1975 from Washburn University School of Law. He served as the county attorney for Thomas County from 1977-1979 and has served as legal counsel for Colby Community College since 1978.
He is a Fellow of the Kansas Bar Foundation, member and past director of the Topeka Bar Association, as well as a member of the American Bar Association.
Starkey has been actively involved in his community, serving as president of the Colby Area Chamber of Commerce, a member of the board of zoning appeals, Colby-Thomas County Planning Commission and the city council. He is also a member of the Association of Defense Trial Attorneys, Kansas Association of Defense Counsel, and Kansas School Attorneys Association.
Starkey and his wife, Lana, have three children, Matt, Alysia, and Jeff.
